Cybernews — trade press with a named, dated byline (Marcus Walsh, published Feb. 24, 2026) — reported that a "rampant, elaborate deepfake scam" had been circulating online, built "by stealing the alias of real Filipina influencer Vera Hill, also known as ChiChi." The piece describes a "typical video from ChiChi, who has over 2.4 million followers" drawing large volumes of genuine fan comments — evidence of a real person with a real following, not a fabricated character. Cybernews places the case alongside a parallel, same-era hoax that weaponized the identity of real gymnast/influencer Zyan Cabrera under a false "Pinay gold medallist" storyline, noting plainly: "there is no explicit video with Cabrera, as there isn't one of Vera Hill." The mechanics, per that same reporting: fabricated "leaked" or "viral" links branded the "ChiChi Call" circulated on WhatsApp, Telegram, and X, mostly across Southeast Asia. Clicking through leads not to real content but to a phishing hub that prompts visitors for social-media credentials or a "media player" download — letting attackers steal logins, install malware or spyware, and in some documented cases superimpose a victim's own submitted images onto AI-generated explicit video as an extortion lever. A large ecosystem of near-identical, unbylined "explainer" articles about the scam has since sprung up across content-farm sites, itself feeding the same search-traffic cycle the scam depends on; we relied only on the named Cybernews report for the facts on this page and did not treat that recycled layer as independent confirmation of anything. Beyond that press piece, pinning down a single confirmed account is harder. A third-party influencer-analytics aggregator (Favikon) links a live TikTok account — handle @chieezzeey, display name "chichi," roughly 2.7 million followers as of July 2026 — to a profile it labels "Vera Hill," and that account's own bio states "MY IG AND FB GOT SUSPENDED." But we found no post from the account itself using the name "Vera Hill," and Favikon's own data lists a U.S. nationality for the account, which conflicts with Cybernews's description of her as Filipina. We're documenting that conflict rather than resolving it in either direction — treat the name-to-handle match as reported, not first-party confirmed. No legal name has been self-disclosed anywhere we found, so none is published here; scattered "real name revealed" content-farm pieces exist for the adjacent scam cluster, but press-printed or aggregator-guessed names fail our self-disclosure bar regardless of the source.
